This project started two years ago when the director of a theater group in Mississippi invited me to write and perform music inspired by Shakespeare. I chose The Tempest and wrote songs from the point of view of the three main characters: Caliban, Ariel, and Prospero (a delightful exercise to put melody and music to such evocative, delicious text). In the end, the actors had so much fun singing and performing the songs from a few scenes that a decision was made to do the entire play a year and a half later. More songs were written, including the "Overture" to pull it all together. "Storm" is taken from the actual performance on Feb 29, 2020 at Mississippi College under the direction of Phyllis Seawright.
