Begotten

from Every Hour by Claire Holley

about

This is a very old carol with an atypical chord structure. Meaning, I loved the song, but I couldn't figure out how to play it. I thought it would be interesting to make a guitar & banjo loop and have various elements come in and out. Dan Phelps called it a "construction project" in the spirit of something Brian Eno and David Byrne might do if they were handed a song like this. It was one of the last tracks we recorded in Texas and one of the most fun for me personally because it was not the way I was used to tracking!
